BellaVelo Women's Cycling Club Ethical Policy
At BellaVelo, we are committed to fostering an environment that upholds the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion. We believe that every woman including trans women or people who are non-binary whose biological sex is female (Women), regardless of their ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, or gender identity, deserve to feel welcome, respected, and valued within our club. We will always try to accommodate Women with disabilities and those of with a range of abilities wherever we can.
With this in mind, we have developed this ethical policy that outlines our commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion. We also strive to use inclusive language throughout our communications and interactions.
1. Equality:
a. We are dedicated to treating all members of BellaVelo with fairness and equality, regardless of their age, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion or belief, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, or, wherever possible, disability and/or ability.
b. We aim to provide equal opportunities for all members to participate in club activities, events, and leadership roles, ensuring that no one is excluded or disadvantaged.
2. Diversity:
a. We celebrate and embrace the diversity of our members, recognising that it enriches our club and promotes a sense of inclusivity.
b. We actively encourage and welcome individuals from all backgrounds, including different races, religion and beliefs, ethnicities, and cultures, to join BellaVelo and contribute to our community.
3. Inclusion and Safety:
a. We strive to create an inclusive environment where every member feels safe, respected, and valued.
b. We are committed to addressing any barriers or challenges that may prevent full participation ensuring that our members have equal access to all club activities, facilities, and resources.
c. We are committed to ensuring the safety of all members. We will provide training and support to help members ride safely and responsibly, and we will encourage all members to follow the rules of the road. We will also take steps to ensure that our rides are accessible to all members and offer a range of rides at different speeds to accommodate a range of riding ability.
4. Respect:
We believe that all members of our cycling club should be treated with respect and dignity. We will not tolerate any form of bullying, intimidation, or harassment, and we will take appropriate action if any member is found to be engaging in such behaviour. We encourage all members to treat each other with kindness and respect, and to speak up if they witness any behaviour that is not in line with our values.
5. Inclusive Language:
a. We recognise the importance of using inclusive language that respects and acknowledges the diversity of our members.
b. We will make every effort to use neutral language and avoid assumptions about identities when communicating with our members, both in written and verbal forms.
6. Education and Awareness:
a. We are dedicated to continuously educating ourselves and our members about issues related to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
b. We will provide resources, training, and workshops to promote understanding, empathy, and awareness of the experiences and challenges faced by individuals from different backgrounds.
7. Accountability:
a. We are committed to holding ourselves accountable for upholding the principles outlined in this ethical policy.
b. We encourage open dialogue and feedback from our members, and we will take appropriate action to address any concerns or incidents that may arise, ensuring a fair and just resolution.
